Open Up Group reports April engineering staff increase but lower utilization rates
TOKYO, May 22 (Pulse News Wire) – Open Up Group Inc. (2154.T) reported its domestic technical employee headcount and utilization rate for April 2026.
As of the end of April, the total number of engineers increased by 316 compared to March, reaching 24,424. However, the overall utilization rate declined by 2.7 percentage points to May 22, 2026. Breaking down by sector, the combined electronics and IT engineer count rose by 248 employees month-over-month, while the construction engineer count grew by 68 employees. Despite the growth in headcount, the electronics and IT utilization rate dropped by 1.8 percentage points, and the construction utilization rate fell by 0.3 percentage points.
Year-over-year comparisons showed mixed results. While the total engineer headcount decreased slightly by 19 employees, the electronics and IT sector saw an increase of 278 employees, accompanied by a rise in utilization rate by 1.3 percentage points. Conversely, the construction sector experienced a decline in both headcount and utilization rate, with a reduction of 297 employees and a drop of 2.7 percentage points in utilization rate. The company noted that the decrease in construction sector utilization was due to a higher influx of new graduates joining mid-month, which typically normalizes by May.
