Matsuya MATSYUA CO., LTD Reports June Sales, Sees Mixed Performance Across Stores
TOKYO, Jul 15 (Pulse News Wire) – Matsuya CO.,LTD. (8237.T) reported mixed sales results for June, showing a slight increase at its Ginza store but significant declines at its Asakusa location.
Overall, the combined Ginza and Asakusa stores saw flat revenue compared to the previous year. At the Ginza store, which includes the Ginza and Asakusa locations, sales increased slightly despite challenges such as reduced foot traffic due to Typhoon impacts and fewer Sundays. Excluding tax-free sales, domestic customers' spending dropped by approximately 10%, while luxury goods like cosmetics and footwear showed strong growth driven by foreign visitors. Tax-free sales surged by around 20% for cosmetics and about 31% for luxury items, reflecting increased overseas customer activity.
In contrast, the Asakusa store experienced a sharp decline of 27%. The company attributed part of this drop to the typhoon's impact and noted plans to continue focusing on attracting international customers and promoting domestic visits through various strategies moving forward. By product category, the overall performance was positive, with men’s and women’s clothing seeing increases of 6.0% and 10.0%, respectively, at the Ginza store. Children’s wear posted a robust 26.2% rise, while household goods and electronics recorded gains of 34.6%.
Looking ahead, Matsuya expects continued efforts to boost sales through targeted promotions and improved customer engagement across different regions.
