Kuramoto Reports Second Quarter Non-Consolidated Operating Loss Due to Idle Asset Charges
TOKYO, Aug 07 (Pulse News Wire) – Kuramoto CO.,LTD. (5216.T) reported a significant impact on its second quarter non-consolidated operating results due to idle asset charges related to its Hanasui Factory.
The company recorded an extraordinary expense of ¥17.8 million due to the factory's prolonged idling since October 11, 2024, following plans to utilize it for perovskite solar cell mass production which could not be realized due to insufficient funding. The Hanasui Factory was initially intended to house an automated manufacturing line for perovskite film production but remained unused due to financial constraints.
As a result, depreciation expenses, property taxes, and management costs associated with the idle facility have been recognized as extraordinary expenses in the non-consolidated financial statements. These charges are reflected in the company’s interim consolidated earnings announcement for the six months ended June 30, 2026.
The inclusion of these expenses significantly affected the overall profitability during the reporting period.
