Japan Airlines Reports First Quarter Loss Amid High Fuel Costs

– Japan Airlines CO.,LTD. (9201.T) reported a net loss of ¥5.608 billion for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, compared to a profit of ¥28.111 billion in the same period last year.

Despite strong revenue growth driven by robust inbound demand and higher fuel surcharges, soaring fuel prices and a weakening yen led to increased costs. International cargo operations saw significant gains due to expanded high-value shipments and supply constraints. However, the airline's operating profit dropped to ¥127 million from ¥455 million in the prior-year quarter.

The company expects to maintain its earnings momentum through strategic investments aimed at expanding international routes and enhancing sustainability across domestic networks. Japan Airlines plans to hold an investor briefing , to discuss these results further. Details of the presentation will be available on the company’s website.
