Harmonic Drive Systems Posts Strong First Quarter Revenue Growth Amid Uncertain Economic Conditions

– Harmonic Drive Systems Inc. (6324.T) reported robust revenue growth for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, driven by increased orders in North America and demand for advanced semiconductor equipment.

Revenue reached ¥16.7 billion, up 14.5% compared to the same period last year. Operating profit surged to ¥18 billion from ¥1 billion previously, while net income attributable to parent shareholders turned positive at ¥12 billion, reversing a loss of ¥1 billion in the prior year. The company's segments showed varied performance. In Japan, revenue grew 11.5% to ¥80 billion, bolstered by strong sales in industrial robots and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. However, China saw a decline in orders for industrial robots, resulting in lower revenue of ¥10 billion, down 15%.

North American operations benefited from significant orders for surgical robotics and advanced semiconductors, achieving a 30% increase in revenue to ¥30.35 billion. European revenues also rose 15%, reaching ¥45 billion. Looking ahead, Harmonic Drive Systems forecasts continued growth for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, projecting revenue of ¥720 billion, a 10% increase from the previous year. The company expects operating profit to reach ¥28 billion, marking a 28% rise year-over-year. Management remains optimistic despite ongoing economic uncertainties, particularly in geopolitical risks and supply constraints.

An analyst meeting is scheduled for further discussion of these results.
