Central Japan Railway Company Reports Lower Quarterly Net Profit Amid Revenue Gains

– Central Japan Railway Company (9022.NG) reported lower net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, despite increased revenue driven by higher transportation income and contributions from group companies. Operating revenue rose to 4,927 billion yen compared to 4,782 billion yen last year, marking a 103.0% increase.

However, operating expenses climbed to 2,735 billion yen from 2,570 billion yen, leading to a decline in operating profit to 2,191 billion yen from 2,212 billion yen. The company attributed the decrease in profitability primarily to rising labor costs within the firm and its subsidiaries. Despite the challenges posed by high inflation, Central Japan Railway maintained its full-year earnings forecast unchanged, emphasizing continued focus on safety, revenue expansion, and operational reforms to bolster long-term financial strength.

In the first quarter, transport revenues saw growth across various segments, with new train lines contributing significantly. Regular passenger traffic grew by 101.2%, while irregular traffic showed slight increases. Overall, total transport revenue reached 3,878 billion yen, up 101.2% from the previous year.

Looking ahead, Central Japan Railway remains committed to its strategic priorities, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and expand revenue streams amid challenging economic conditions.
