Yamaha Settles Consumer Group Antitrust Lawsuit Without Significant Impact
TOKYO, Jul 15 (Pulse News Wire) – Yamaha Corporation (7951.T) announced the conclusion of a consumer group antitrust lawsuit initiated against it and its subsidiary Yamaha Music Europe GmbH. The case was brought by Which?, represented by Elisabetta Sciallis, alleging resale price maintenance violations related to electronic pianos, keyboards, and guitars sold in the UK from March 2013 to March 2017.
The lawsuit alleged that consumers paid excessive prices due to unlawful pricing practices. On January 10, 2023, the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal approved the plaintiffs' request to withdraw the lawsuit, thereby ending the legal proceedings without significant impact on Yamaha's current earnings.
In detail, the plaintiffs included British consumers who purchased affected products during the specified timeframe. The settlement concludes the litigation process initiated on January 10, 2023, marking a resolution to the long-standing dispute.
