Renascience Begins Phase II Trial for Locally Advanced NSCLC

– Renascience Inc. (4889.T) initiated a Phase II clinical trial targeting locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

On July 16, 2026, the first patient was administered RS5,614, a PAI-1 inhibitor developed by the company. Funded by the National Center for Biotechnology Information's (AMED) fiscal year 2026 project, the study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combining RS5,614 with chemoradiotherapy and immunotherapy drug Durvalumab in 27 patients who cannot undergo curative surgery. The trial, led by Hiroshima University Hospital and conducted across 12 domestic medical institutions, runs from April 2026 to March 2029. The primary endpoint of the trial is the one-year progression-free survival rate.

Previous research showed enhanced anti-tumor effects when RS5,614 was combined with Durvalumab, particularly in early-stage treatments. This trial seeks to improve initial treatment outcomes and mitigate radiation-induced pulmonary side effects associated with conventional therapies. Renascience expects reduced costs due to AMED funding but has already incorporated potential expenses into its fiscal 2027 forecasts. The company’s preclinical data demonstrated that RS5,614 enhances tumor suppression and reduces resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, suggesting broader therapeutic benefits beyond just improving treatment efficacy.
