Nittetsu Mining Nippon Mining Warns Chile Rainfall Could Delay Copper Mine Start-Up

– Nittetsu Mining CO.,LTD. (1515.T) warned that heavy rainfall in central and southern Chile could delay the planned start-up of its Alcerros copper mine project.

The company said the rain caused damage to transportation routes and infrastructure, potentially impacting the July-to-September production timeline previously announced in February. Specifically, road washouts and bridge damage have disrupted the movement of equipment and personnel. While there are no reports of significant damage to key mining facilities or injuries to employees, the recovery time remains unclear.

Nippon Mining stated it would update stakeholders promptly once more information becomes available. In addition, the company noted that while operations and development activities at its Puquios copper mine project in northern Chile remain largely unaffected, it is considering support measures for affected areas. Efforts are underway to coordinate with local authorities to expedite recovery efforts.
