Mizuho Financial Group Expands Share Buyback Plan and Extends Period
TOKYO, Jul 30 (Pulse News Wire) – Mizuho Financial Group,inc. (8411.T) decided to expand its share buyback program and extend the buyback period during a board meeting held on July 30.
The company also changed the scheduled cancellation date for acquired shares. Originally, the plan aimed to purchase up to 25,000,000 ordinary shares, representing 1.0% of outstanding shares excluding treasury stock as of March 31, 2026. The revised plan now allows for purchasing up to 35,000,000 ordinary shares, accounting for 1.4% of outstanding shares excluding treasury stock as of June 30, 2026. The total acquisition amount was increased from ¥100.0 billion to ¥200.0 billion. The buyback period has been extended from May 15, 2026, to September 30, 2026.
Additionally, the company resolved to cancel all acquired shares previously purchased under the initial resolution. The previous cancellation date was set for September 24, 2026, but it has been updated to October 23, 2026. The number of shares to be canceled will be disclosed once the acquisition process is completed. This decision aligns with Mizuho's capital policy, which focuses on achieving optimal balance among capital enhancement, growth investment, and enhanced shareholder returns. The company plans to maintain a payout ratio of 50% or higher as part of its strategy.
As of June 30, 2026, the company had a total of 2,433,537,063 ordinary shares outstanding, excluding treasury stock, and held 9,294,931 treasury shares.
