Holds a significant stake in the company. As of March 31, 2026, Sumitomo Forestry owns 15.36% of Kumagai Gumi's shares directly, making it the largest shareholder. Sumitomo Forestry operates independently while maintaining strong ties with Kumagai Gumi based on shared long-term goals.

Both companies respect each other’s autonomy and collaborate to achieve synergies through business cooperation. Despite being a major shareholder, Sumitomo Forestry does not interfere with Kumagai Gumi's independent decision-making processes. Additionally, Kumagai Gumi reported that Takashi Sato serves as a special advisor at Sumitomo Forestry due to his extensive management experience and broad expertise, which he brings to the board to foster more constructive discussions.
