Hitachi to Buy Back Shares Worth Over 1 Trillion Amid Economic Uncertainty

– Hitachi,ltd. (6501.NG) announced that it had completed share repurchases totaling 9,378,900 shares worth ¥45.54 billion during the period from July 01, 2026 to July 31, 2026.

The buyback was executed through open-market purchases on the Tokyo Stock Exchange based on resolutions made at the board meeting held on April 27, 2026. As part of its ongoing strategy, Hitachi initially aimed to repurchase up to ¥100 million ordinary shares, representing approximately 3.56% of outstanding shares excluding treasury stock. The total value of the intended repurchase was set at up to ¥500.0 billion.

The initial resolution covered the period from April 28, 2026, to July 31, 2026. By July 31, 2026, Hitachi had cumulatively repurchased 29,725,200 shares for a total amount of ¥145.5 billion. Looking ahead, Hitachi acknowledged potential risks affecting future performance, including economic fluctuations, exchange rate volatility, funding conditions, geopolitical changes, supply chain disruptions, regulatory challenges, technological development, natural disasters, litigation, and intellectual property issues.
