DOWA Holdings Reports Strong Q1 Profits Amid Metal Price Gains
TOKYO, Aug 07 (Pulse News Wire) – Dowa Holdings CO.,LTD. (5714.T) reported robust first-quarter profits driven by favorable metal prices and exchange rates.
Revenue increased to 58% billion yen compared to ¥160.1 billion last year, while operating profit rose to 281% billion yen from ¥6.400 billion. Ordinary profit also saw a significant boost, reaching 278% billion yen up from ¥8.600 billion. The company attributed the strong performance to higher metal prices and a weaker yen, which positively impacted sales and profitability across various segments. Notably, silver price declines led to inventory valuation gains in the refining division, further enhancing overall earnings. However, ongoing challenges such as rising raw material costs and labor expenses tempered some growth prospects.
For the remainder of the fiscal year, Dowa anticipates continued volatility in precious metals prices, particularly gold, silver, and platinum, alongside potential weakening demand in automotive-related sectors due to cost increases. Despite these headwinds, the company maintains its initial annual forecast unchanged. In the environmental recycling sector, Dowa managed to offset reductions in low-concentration PCB waste through increased processing of difficult-to-treat waste, supporting stable operations. Meanwhile, electronic materials saw improved sales volumes of silver powder and increased shipments of complex oxide powders for AI data centers and fuel cells. Looking ahead, Dowa remains cautious but optimistic, highlighting the resilience of key markets and operational efficiencies achieved during the quarter.
